Week 6 answer

Dave Winer makes a plea at the Public Media 2007 conference last week in Boston. He urged public broadcasters to bring a greater diversity of voices into presidential election coverage and to learn from the media’s mistakes in the run up to the Iraq war while covering the ginning up of a conflict with Iran.

Jason Calacanis labeled the style “slow Dave” in his podcast this week, and played his favorite bit from the speech. Dave did reason with the broadcasters so gently and soulfully that even right-leaning journalists and citizens will feel the sincerity and be moved to let the words sink in.
For techies who aren’t interested in politics and journalism, Dave makes a pitch for a new kind of podcast listening and making device during the first 10 minutes of the talk.
I’m enclosing another clip from the Q&A session, about six minutes of Dave talking with WBGH Morning Stories host Tony Kahn about produced-for-podcast programs, pros teaching amateurs to roll their own shows, and the debate trap. You’ll also hear Doc Searls who shared the stage with Dave, introducing him and chiming in with a few gems. You really should listen to the whole talk.
